Which Area Youth Do You Want To Nominate?
Special Thanks to Erie Insurance
Once again, with support from Erie Insurance, JazzErie is offering a $1,000 scholarship for an incoming college student, entering a college music program this fall. Its revival is the result of the constructive persistence of Board member Mary Watson, and the expertise of Board member Chuck Lute.
To qualify, students must:
Gain acceptance into a college music program (may be education, theory, performance, composition, jazz, or other related concentration.)
Be from the Erie area, but school may be anywhere.
Submit and essay and/or sample music video/audio.
Provide verification of acceptance into a music program.
Application forms will be available Jan. 15, 2012. They will be posted on the JazzErie website, available from area high school music teachers, or by writing to JazzErie, P.O. Box 8833, Erie, PA 16505.
Applications are due April 15, and must be submitted by mail to the address on the Application Form.
Award will be announced in late May.
A $1,000 check will be sent to the student August 1, once student’s college enrollment has been confirmed.

Where Are They Now? JazzErie Scholarship Recipients
Did you notice that we began a new series of articles in December? Over the years, JazzErie and our community have contributed to numerous young musicians' futures through our modest scholarship. We're looking them up, one at a time, to see what kind of music they are sharing with the world now.
We began the series with Harry Jacobson's student, Tony Alford, who was our first scholarship recipient. Tony now resides and performs in Florida. If you missed, read the article, Tony Alford Still Loves the Bass.
This month we caught up with guitaris nad vocalist, Paul Holmes, currently living in Brooklyn. Paul has achieved quite a bit of success already in his career, and we're proud to know him. See what he's been doing in Paul Holmes: Creating New Musical Spaces.
