Michael Leal Leaves Erie Jazz Radio
JazzFM 88.5 Station Manager Heads East
Michael Leal, the Mercyhurst WCME director who brought us Jazz FM 88.5, Erie’s 24X7 jazz radio station, and his wife, Christie, will soon be headed to Long Beach, New York (yes, New York, off Long Island) where she will be doing her residency at a local hospital. Mike will be leaving the station at the end of February.
Mike came to WCME in May of 2007 and spearheaded the station’s decision to “go jazz” on a full time basis – bringing in national, regional and local jazz programming. This decision put Erie in the elite ranks of a small handful of cities across the U.S. with full time jazz radio. Station memberships and listenership have quadrupled during the five years of his tenure.
Mike is also a member of JazzErie’s Board of Directors, and has led the way in joint jazz programming between the two organizations. Events have included two station birthday celebrations (the most recent at the Docksider) and last Spring’s JazzErie Singers’ Night.
