Lest we forget...

Billie Holliday and some of the foundational figures of the 30's and 40's.  The video,Includes a single 12 bar chorus by Lester Young, which many, including Gunther Schuller, in his classic history of jazz, identify as perhaps the most perfect blues chorus ever.  Contributions by Ben Webster, Vic Dickenson, Gerry Mulligan, Coleman Hawkins and Roy Eldridge are not shabby either..

The recording is from a 1957 TV show titled THE SOUND OF JAZZ, produced by Nat Hentoff for CBS.  The rhythm section for this date was Mal Waldron - piano, Milt Hinton -- bass, and Osie Johnson -- drums.  Within two years following this recording, both Billie Holliday and Lester Young were gone.
