Discover The Short Jazz Documentaries of Montreal filmmaker Randy Cole
A Touching Tribute To Trumpeter Kevin Dean's Father

All About Jazz alerted us this week to a new short documentary by filmmaker Randy Cole recently, with their article New 'Jazz, Period.' Film Takes a Stirring Look at Musical Mentorship and Loss. I had forgotten how much I love his work.

The most recent video mixes Montreal trumpeter Kevin Dean's story of the ballad, 'Pops,' which he composed for his dad, with cuts of the song's performance.

Here are a few of Randy Cole's videos to whet your appetite, starting with "Famous Last Words by Kevin Dean.

I particularly love the perspectives in his film, "Mentorship" w/ John Abercrombie & The Doxas Brothers. It reflects the attitudes that so many JazzErie musicians display.

You can see all 51 of Randy Cole's Jazz, Period videos at youtube.com/user/wideangleman.

Enjoy.
