This audacious, 3-CD project has won recognition from critics and listeners as "Best Album of the Year" in many polls.  Combines jazz, rhythm & blues, gospel and a broad palette with multiple rhythm & horns, a string section, a vocal chorus.  And lots of ideas, and room for soloists to create in a clear but open framework.  Quite a bit of talk at the beginning, but your patience will be rewarded by an ecstatic live performance.

Like many "unknown" artists, Washington has been around awhile, primarily on the West Coast, playing and gathering a crew testing a variety of compositional ideas.  He's come up with something that feels coherent and exhilarating in spite of its diversity of content.
