Stayin' Loose With Bruce
Swing happens in Erie.

In keeping with this month's theme, "Celebrating Swing",we're resurrecting one of our favoriite performances by a local group:  Yes, we've published it before, but it's not as often as you'd think that an outstanding [erformance is captured on video, with good quality video, sound and playing coming together -- and with local musicians!.

Recorded in 2013, the video features the Misery Bay Big Band, with JazzErie High School Jazz Schorlarship winner Tim Tuglio on tenor and one of his heros, international star Bruce Johnstone on baritone.  It's remarkable in that the recording itself, taken by Tim's high school band teacher, is good, and the music itself is exceptional -- Tim and Bruce and the band all swing, and their excitement is audiblee.   Bruce giving a  very talented student a jazz lesson in the best of circumstances: on the bandstand!

Tim's band instructor, Kathy Thumpston, is responsible for this excellent video, as well as for bringing her student along very, very well..

I don't have an update on Tim.  If you know, please call me.  Bruce retireed from his position as head of Jazz Studies at SUNY Fredonia last year, but remains in the area at this time.

REMEMBER, JJAZZERIE'S NEXT GENERATION CONCERT THIS YEAR IS COMING UP ON THURSDAY, MAY 11 AT 6:00 P.M. AT GENERAL MCLANE HIGH SCHOOL IN EDINBORO.  Come and hear terriffic regional hisgh school jazz ensembles, and a great area professional big band back special guest Sal.Andolina.  Admission only $5.  Students free.
