Arturo Sandoval & Dizzy GillespieArturo/Diz

Sandoval is historically famous for his relationship with bop pioneer Dizzy Gillespie, who encountered the youn man on a visit to Cuba where Gillespie was pursuing his own exploration of Latin music.  Deeply impressed by Sandoval's chops and knowledge of the developing language of bop, Gillespie formed a lifelong bond, later expediting Sandoval's travel to the U.S. and acceptance on the U.S. scene.

The story has become a legend among musicians and was memorialized in the 2000 film "For Love Or Country: The Arturo Sandoval Story."
