Hot Rhythm & The History of Rain
Sunday, June 2, 2013
Sunday, June 2, 2013 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 7180 Perry Highway (Highway 87).
An outstanding afternoon of great jazz -- FREE! Hear two top area bands in a wonderful venue for listening. "Hot Rhythm" promises "New Orleans, jazz, pop/rock." "The History of Rain" promises something unique. Come hear for yourself.
This is a family band, featuring Sonny Froman, a drummer who has returned to the area from Hawaii, where his career included regular gigs with the iconic Hawaiian singer Don Ho, as well as the Honolulu Symphony. Sonny now runs a music store, Creative Projects Music, in Corry, and teaches drums. He has authored a jazz drum method book, among other accomplishments. Jackson Froman, the band's pianist, is also music director at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation. Guitarist James Froman rounds out the group.
"The History of Rain"
This part of the program brings the voice and compositional talents of Katie Chriest and guitarist Sheldon Peterson, who together are well known as the nucleus of The Heliotropes, and melds them with the rest of the Allen Zurcher Quartet: Zurcher on reeds, Dave Blaetz, bass, and Matt Ferguson, drums. The title suggests... come hear for yourself.
The event will expose you to some of the premier jazz talents in the Northwestern PA region. And it's free!
