Beginning with a reception and live music at the Erie Art Museum, this event presents jazz at six downtown Erie venues. The band performing at the Erie Art Museum reception will be the Bruce Johnstone Trio, featuring intermationally (and locally!) revered baritone saxophone legend Bruce Johnstone, who made his name as a soloist with the Maynard Ferguson and Woody Herman big bands, and with smaller ensembles alongside the best instrumentalists of his era. The evening program will continue with bands at five additional downtonw Erie locations -- see Schedule below. Donation of $15 suggested, for a bracelet entitling you to refreshments and beverage at the reception, plus admission to all venues. Busses available if you tire of walking. Excellent music, excellent company, a chance to enjoy a fine evening in downtown Erie. Artists: Bruce Johnstone Trio Weather permitting, you can gather your refreshments indoors and enjoy the concert in the 5th Street patio. Otherwise there's a fine concert space indoors.
Artists: James Madden Trio. Madden - piano, Ed Hallahan - bass, Matt Ferguson - drums This great piano trio brings together the original talents of three instrumentalist who listen closely, each bringing his original conception to the mix, and cook up some terrific sounds. If you've already heard them together, I'm sure you'll be there. If you haven't heard them, you're in for a treat!
Artists: Vinny Stefanelli Blues Band, featuring Stefanelli - guitar & vocals, Nick "Tito" Ronzitti - drums, Paul Sontheimer - bass and Stan Bialomizy - saxophone. A great small ensembble with the added treat oa a visit from the recently-moved-out-of-town saxophonist and lively spirit Stan Bialomizy.
With a high powered rhythm sectiontrio and a great local singer, this should be a memorrable event. Sit close if you can, it's a big venue. And try the BrewErie's cfart beers!
Artists: The Blues Beaters, featuring Kevin Bensink - bass, Jeff Gibbens - trumpet, Alllen Zurcher -- tenor saxophone, Henry Toperowski - guitar, Jimmy Cuneo - keyboards and Jack Bernard - drums. Leaning toward the blues, this band brings a rich array of styles and sounds to the bandstand. If you like a broad take on rhythm, blues and pop, you'll like the Blues Beaters. 10:00 p.m. - 1:00 a.m. Plymouth Tavern, 1109 State St.
