Director of Western Michigan University's Jazz program, Knific is an imaginative, thoughtful upright bassist and composer.  A Cleveland native, Knific has played with Brubeck, Fred Hersch, Randy Brecker, Toots Thielmans and many more.

He brings Andrew Rathburn - saxophone, son Gene Knific - piano (no slouch himself after tours of Africa, Russia and the US), and drummer Keith Hall.  Great living room jazz.

Tues., May 5  7 p.m.  $20 cover.  DIEGO FIGUEIREDO, Jazz, Brazilian, classical solo

guitarist.  Winner of Montreux Jazz competition.  194 albums.

Thurs., May 7  8 p.m.  $20 cover.  ERNIE KRIVDA ORGAN QUARTET.

"One of the originals of the tenor saxophone" (Bill Donaldson) with an excellent ensemble.  David Thomas - Hammond B-3, has performed with Dizzy Gillespie, Albert Ayler, Grover Washington and others.  Bob Fraser - guitar, has performed and presented workshops in Erie, is a creative soloiist and esteemed teacher, and Detroit-born Renell Gonsalves - drums.

Diane Schuur with Barry ManilowTues., May 12  7 p.m.  $40 cover.  DIANE SCHUuR.

Now 30 years into an illustrious career as a singer, with two Grammys along the way,  Schuur brings her New York-based group.

Fri., May 15  8:30 p.m.  $20 cover.  STEPHANE WREMBLE GYPSY JAZZ QUARTET.

Lead guitarist Wremble brings a contemporary version of the Django Reinhardt sound.With Roy Williams - guitar, Kells Nollenberger - acoustic bass, Nick Anderson - drums.

Christian McBrideSat., May 16  8 p.m.  $30 cover.  CHRISTIAN MCBRIDE TRIO.

Four-time Grammy winner, everyone's first-call bassist, McBride brings his own stellar trio: Christian Sands - piano, Ulysses wens - drums.  Hold on to your hat.  This guy has played with everybody and can do it all.  You won't believe this clip.

Mon., May 18  7 p.m.  $20 cover.  GENE BERTONCINI TRIO.

Jazz guitar great in the classical stule.  Benny Goodman, Tony Bennett, Buddy Rich, Wayne Shorter and Clark Terry are among his credits.  He brings Doug Richardson - acoustic bass, and Dave Richeson - drums.

Larry CoryellThurs. & Fri., May 21 & 22  8 p.m.  $30 cover.  LARRY CORYELL/DAVID GARFIELS QUINTET.

Jim Stevens - sax, John King - bass, James Jackson - drums, Coryell - guitar and Garfield - keyboard.  Coryell started out with Chico Hamilton, then Gary Burton,
then emerged as a fusion leader in the 1970's.  He has spent a lifetime on the road and in the studio as an innovator jazz and standard-bearer.

Richie ColwSat., May 23  8:30 p.m.  $20 cover.  RICHIE COLE with the SAMMY DELEON LATIN JAZZ SEXTET.

If you missed him at the Anchor In, this is a chance to hear this bebop jazz great with a top North Coase Latin group.

Popular R&B and Contemporary singer McBride with Cleveland musicians Kip Reed - electric bass and Elijah Gilmore - drums.


6-string electric violinist Chris McKhool, guitarist Kevin Laliberte, bassist Drew Briston and percussionist Albeerto Suarez bring their eclectic version of Gypsy jazz to Nighttown.
