+ Poetry, Art, Wine & Cheese

PACA Performing Arts Center, 1505 State St., Erie

The Nova Free Jazz Trio, PACA, JazzErie, Wegmans and Presque Isle Wine Cellars are sponsoring an arts, wine and cheese party featuring the Trio, legendary Erie poet Chuck Joy and the work of local artists Carole Werder, Jay DeAlba and Luke Ghering. An evening of challenging artistic experiences!
The Nova Free Jazz Trio is composed of tenor saxophonist Rob Schlaudecker, drummer/percussionist Nick “Tito” Ronzitti and upright bassist Dick Thompson. Describing his role in starting the group, Schlaudecker says: “I decided I wanted to try something outside of the usual standards and covers of tunes everybody plays. I started calling around and found two like-minded musicians who shared my interest. The chemistry was there immediately.
“Sometimes we may start with a standard tune as a launching pad, then find our way into new territory. Sometimes we just begin with a rhythm , or a mood, and build. We’re having a lot of fun and we hope you do too.”
One of the most prolific of area poets, Chuck Joy has also been a key instigator and supporter of Erie’s indigenous poetry scene. His down-to-earth language and ability to give unexpected meaning common actions and places makes him a welcome addition to any gathering.
Additional sponsorships are invited.
