The retro fusion group Snarky Puppy will perform at The Crooked i, 1013 State St. in downtown Erie on Thurs., March 20, 2014 as part of MIAC's season.  The performance will start at 8 p.m. . Advance tickets are $12 (D'Angelo Center Ticket Office), tickets at the door will be $15.

National recognition has been on the rise for this contemporary rock/jazz group since their album was selected by iTunes among "Best of 2012 Albums," and now boasts a 2013 Grammy Award for a track backing R&B singer Lalah Hathaway.

Snarky Puppy describes itself as a collective.  The group began as an "underground" band, emerging from the University of Texas jazz program, but its visibility rapidly incrreased with an aggressive international tour schedule, including performances in Asia, Europe, Australia and North America.  They have appeared at the North Sea, Monterey and Melbourne jazz festivals, in addition to clubs and concert halls worldwide.

Led by bass guitarist/composer Michael League, the band exhibits a shifting variety of instrumentation and increasingly complex arrangements combined with raw funk.  Snarky Puppy is committed to music education and community outreeach, notably with the projects Roots of American Music in Cleveland, and the Music Lab at Jefferson Center in Roanoke.

The downtown location will provide a natural environment for this exciting ensemble.
